We're almost even...

Six months ago I had a restless night of sleep. Emme was 7 days overdue and I was anticipating a scheduled induction the next morning. Still praying I could avoid Pitocin to kick-start my labor, I was awake most of the night. Unfortunately for Brad, I wasn't alone in my sleeplessness. He was in the bathroom most of the night...throwing up. Brad developed a nasty stomach bug which sent him to the couch for most of my labor/delivery.

It has been understood within our marriage that he owes me big for being out of commission when I needed him the most. I have told him that I will continue playing this card until he takes me on a big trip (i.e. Hawaii).

However, after the day Brad had today, we're almost even. Today was the first day of intense focus on potty-training with Rory. She had accident, after accident, after accident. Brad has done two loads of laundry today to keep her outfitted in clean big girl underpants. Apparently, Rory has no problem sitting on the potty for an extended period of time. About a minute after she gets off, pulls up her pants and heads back into the living room, she pees. She quickly announces that she's "pooped" in her pants. Brad has cleaned up more urine today than...well, it's a lot.

They did share some victories. Brad settled her in for a long time on the toilet by starting a movie on our laptop. She called me to announce that she "made water on the big girl potty!!!" I cheered her and encouraged her to keep it up...she peed on herself not long after. Brad was on his toes and caught her as she was starting in on a dirty one...if you know what I mean...she again called me to announce she made a "poop-a-doop" on the big girl potty!!! Again with the cheering.

They have another go at it tomorrow. It's a long process and Brad has done such a great job of staying the course. No matter the outcome of this two-day intensive attempt, he has earned some big time daddy points in our eyes!

We will be praying. Potty training can be so difficult, and your approach sounds great. I'm glad to see that so far, you guys are maintaining your sense of humor. :)

Brad, you're amazing!

Sam, I wish it was as easy to potty train Rory as we had training you.
