Fun with MeeMaw

Rory had a playdate last Tuesday with her MeeMaw (Brad's mom). She generously came down on Monday night so that she could stay with Rory all day on Tuesday while Brad and I helped at the Annual Cass County Young Life Golf Tournament. They watched movies, and played games, took walks, and she taught Rory Old MacDonald. You can tell from the photo that it was a great day.

We are very blessed to have family members who are so willing to take care of Rory. It is very important to me that she is familiar with her grandparents. I want her to feel comfortable around them like she would a good friend.

The golf tournament was fun...hot, but fun. I was given the duty of driving a golf cart loaded up with cold drinks to take to all the golfers. I hadn't driven a golf cart in a long time...but everyone assured me it was just like driving a car. There were no accidents.

I had my pre-admission appointment at Saint Luke's South. It is a great hospital and I'm very excited to be delivering there. I had surgery to repair my umbilical hernia at South last summer and was very impressed with the care I received. I will be able to labor, deliver, and recover in the same room. With Rory I was moved into a smaller recovery room within 2 hours after delivering which I stayed in until leaving. Brad and I are also excited about the kitchen full of beverages and snacks for us while we're there. We didn't have access to munchies at our last hospital either. It's the simple things in life.

Two days ago Brad, Rory and I headed over to a new friend's house for a swim date. Luke, Sheri and Quin Swartz were on assignment with us at Castaway. We knew them as acquaintances since they live in Belton, but we were able to become friends while living together for a month. Quin and Rory became fast friends and even though every once in awhile they struggle with sharing, they are always happy to see one another. This past Sunday they invited us over to swim in their neighborhood pool. It was so much fun to see them again and reconnect. People always say they should get together...but we all know how that sometimes ends up. We swam for a couple hours and then had dinner together.

Since Quin is 5 months older than Rory he is just a step ahead of her in many areas. It's nice because she sees what Quin is doing and it encourages her to take that extra step forward. For instance, at the pool she saw that Quin was jumping off the edge into his father's arms. That made her want to try. Albeit her "jump" was more like falling forward from a kneeling position into Brad's arms. It was still more than she probably would've tried without seeing Quin go first.

Here's a photo of Quin and Rory from Castaway.
