Day one of camp is almost over. Brad is right now outside in the dark Minnesota night helping to direct campers through the Obstacle Course (part of his Head Leader job responsibilities). Earlier in the day he helped "greet" everyone as they got off the buses as the "Foreman" (his Program character...the villain). You could tell the three of them (Dan, Jeff, and Brad) got more comfortable in their roles as each bus pulled up. By the end they were getting pretty good. Tonight's dinner was their first official "man-I-hope-this-is-funny" moment as they introduced the basic story line to the entire camp. Good news...it was funny!
Dan and Jeff are "Brock Dude and Trent Dude, twin brothers from the same mother. 'Cause that's how twins work." Brad is the "Foreman" who plans on taking over the camp in order to build a factory on the property. The Dudes are starting a friendship revolution via MySpace and the campers are already rooting for them. It's hard to explain, but the dudes have a symbol for their friendship revolution. They clasp their hands together over their heads. By the end of their first appearance at dinner, most of the dining room was joining in and raising their hands high above their heads in the same way. It was so exciting to see. A definite plus for the Program Team (Dan, Jeff and Brad). The characters are good, and Brad is a good villain...really hateable if you can believe it.
In other breaking news: I fell down today. While trying to corral the many basketballs Rory had strewn throughout the court, I tried to kick one and the ball didn't want to move. My leg kept going and I ended up on the ground. My knee is sore and skinned, along with my right foot and part of my leg. It's uncomfortable but mostly just embarassing. I think my center of gravity must be off...it's not like my belly grows every day or anything like that.
Rory's still cute. Today was better regarding sharing. We miss Brad. He has to be gone so much this first week as there are so many meetings and practices and stuff he has to be a part of. We were able to eat breakfast with him, and have seen him for a couple of passing hellos throughout the day. Next week will be better. We've heard that these first few days are rough. Jim Gum (our camp speaker/director) remarked this morning during worship (before campers arrived) that we are living sacrifices. But the problem with living sacrifices is that they tend to crawl off the altar. He encouraged us to daily crawl back onto the altar and serve kids as if they are Christ walking among us. I am trying to apply that idea to caring for Rory. She can't help it if her mommy is tired and her daddy is super busy...she deserves love, attention, and positive interaction. I can give that to her if I choose it in the midst of the busyness.
