Rory learned a hard lesson this morning...bare feet are not as slide-friendly as socked feet. Her feet stopped her mid-slide and she face plated on the edge before hitting the bottom.
We had a 2nd birthday party for Rory this past Sunday with close family. We had a really good time. It was fun to have all those people together and celebrate such a vibrant little life. She loved all of her presents...a baby doll and stroller (named "Nuni", which is only funny if you're a fan of Saturday Night Live), a mower (which she calls a "motorcyle" because of the sound effects it has), Mrs. Potato Head (whose glasses she wears on her own face), and the infamous slide from mommy and daddy. Brad played the dad role to a tee as he manned the grill out on the deck. Rory even blew out the candle on her own on her pink icing cake decorated with the faces of Shreck, Fiona, and Donkey. (Her birthday really isn't until June 17th, but we'll be gone so we had an early party.)
One more story. It is common knowledge that many young children like to pelt their parents with the frequent question, "Why?" Rory is in a different stage right now. Her question of choice is, "Who's that?" We just had lunch at McDonald's (a special treat for us since daddy gets to golf all day), and I spent the entire time telling her I didn't know the people sitting in the booths around us, or those coming through the door, or the people waiting outside in the drive-thru lane, or the characters on her happy meal box. She even asked the question of the design on the seat cushions behind us, and the labels on her box of chicken nuggets. Good grief kid, do you have to be everyone's friend?
