Last night was a high and low for Team Anderson. During dinner Brad and I decided to dig our heels in and win the battle regarding the left-over green beans on Rory's plate. We're not believers in the "Clean Plate Club," and typically we let Rory decide when her tummy is full. However, she needed to eat veggies before the fruit, so we picked the battle...and an hour later we won. There were tears (Rory's) and much drama but eventually she happily ate her green beans as we cheered and gave her high-fives. Thank goodness, since she really needed a bath which wouldn't have happened if she went straight to bed after dinner.
Usually after bathtime Rory likes to "go potty" by sitting on her potty chair for two seconds and then saying, "all done." Nothing ever happens...until last night. She sat down for the prerequisite moment and we thought it would be a typical "no show" for the potty. But she kept sitting, longer and longer, until Brad went to move her and there was potty in the chair! She actually went to the bathroom in her potty chair. We made a big to-do with more high-fives all around. It was so much fun to celebrate such a big day for her. May 9th 2006 will forever be the first time Rory went potty like a big girl...even if it isn't followed by immediate potty training. It's a good sign. Maybe we'll try to start the process in July? She'll probably regress once the new baby arrives (so the pediatrician warns), but who knows when I'll have the time to devote solely to this task again? (For those of you who don't know, a newborn likes to eat pretty often...and I'm intimately involved in that activity.)
