random updates

Mother Nature almost forgot a season.  We thought we might miss out on the crisp chill of fall during the cold rains we were getting last week.  Here's a shot from our kitchen window on Sunday.

Rory took a closer look at the sidewalk Friday night during a spirited game of Duck, Duck, Goose.  Here's her "sad face."  Later that night she looked at me and said, "Don't worry Mom, it will heal."
After a rocky transition period the girls are getting used to living in community once again.  I knew we were almost back to "normal" when Rory began dancing in the cafeteria again.  That's when I can tell she's feeling comfortable.  Emme still gets nervous at seemingly random times and refuses to interact, or even go near, anyone other than Brad and I.  A couple times I've bribed her with a trip to the ice cream machine with said person to quicken the "warming up" process. 

The first day of preschool this year was rainy.  Here's the traditional front steps shot in the new school outfit...which of course she decided that day she no longer liked.  Look closely at the shoes...they're Rocket Dogs.  Rory is convinced they make her run faster.  And even though she begged to wear them a few times prior to the first day of school, she still takes them off right when we get home so she can cover her tootsies with her flower shoes.
It makes me smile to introduce my RA staff to you all.  They are from left: Melody, Caitlin, Kelsey, and Morgan.  Front: Abby and Heather.  Even though it's my second year at Jewell, this is my first year with a staff of Resident Assistants which I have interviewed and selected.  I feel as if I've taken more leadership this year since this is "my staff."  I'm happy to report that I not only like working with these ladies, but I really like these ladies!

It should be noted that they don't typically dress like this.  They are in character as the Jewell Spice Girls.  Their names (which you will only find humorous if you are familiar with Jewell) are: Responsible Spice, Clock tower Spice, Perch Spice, Sahara Spice, Wellness Spice, and Spirit Spice.
