We went car-shopping today. Sitting in our garage is a 2001 Volvo V40 station wagon. Random specifics: silver, heated seats, CD/cassette player, tinted windows, LATCH system for the carseats, built-in booster seats, lots of airbags, climate control, great gas mileage (up to 22 in city/32 on highway...just two cup holders.
Volvos are incredibly safe cars. It feels good putting our girls in this car. It's got a lot of power. During the test-drive I was surprised at how fast I could accelerate in between stop lights. The cars are well-built and should last us for many more miles/years. The girls will probably be driving this car some day. I know these things not because some salesman told me, but because Brad did hours of research last night when narrowing down our choices for today's car hunt.
It would've been fun to buy a larger SUV and enjoy the space they have...a goal for our next car purchase. But the reality is that within our budget, those cars are either really old or have lots and lots of miles already. I feel like we made a smart choice. We stayed in our price range and bought the most/best car we could get for our money. I feel good about this car for all the right reasons. I'm officially driving a mom car...but it's a cool mom car right?

Brad showcasing the screen which can be pulled back to cover the cargo area.
It's so safe, even our luggage gets a seatbelt.
Wipers for the headlights.
It's not a knock-off...it says "VOLVO," not "VOLBO"
