Friday I found out our family will be moving back to William Jewell College so I can serve as the Resident Director of Melrose Hall, which houses female first-year students.
We are excited about this news for many different reasons...
*It is quite a relief to know we have a home once we leave Harrisonville. We're having a rather large garage sale to take care of some much-needed downsizing since our new home is a two-bedroom apartment.
*I'll get the chance to work with college students..an age group which greatly interests me. College is a fantastic time in life. I am honored to be able to be a part of the Jewell experience for the ladies who will live in Melrose.
*The Resident Director (RD) position is full-time, which means our family will have health benefits...a huge plus with kiddos.
*We'll be able to eat meals in the student union. Cooking isn't my favorite...so I'm very excited.
*Trips to visit grandparents will be one hour shorter.
*Trips to visit Harrisonville friends (which we'll have forever) will only be 45 minutes long.
*Brad and I both graduated from WJC (or "were graduated" as my friend Glen taught me). Jewell holds a very special place in our hearts. That campus facilitated lots of learning, friendships, opportunities, and memories for both of us. Our Jewell-experience plays a large role in the people we are today. We are glad to be a part of the Jewell community again, and share our alma mater with Rory and Emme.
Friend, Sheryl Ferguson, is the current RD of Melrose. She's pretty amazing at it and has set the standard high. Sheryl, I promise to take care of your girls. Good luck in your Milwaukee adventures.

Sam,
That is so exciting. We are moving back to KC in August and would love to reconnect with y'all. My mom lives right down the street from Jewell. You will do great!

Hey Samantha,
Congratulations on your new beginnings! Melrose doesn't look quite like it did when we were at Jewell, does it?? It is so nice- my sister was an RA there for three years- she loved it. It sounds like the perfect fit for you. Is Brad ready to be surrounded by more girls!?!

WOOOHOOOOO! I'm so happy for you!!
Glen's so right - the institution does the graduating, the student/person is just a participant. FYI - he learned that from Dr. L.A. Harris. Or she at least reinforced it.
Man, I'm e-mailing to get more of the scoop...
Congrats guys. That's very exciting!
What GREAT news! Congrats, Sam and family. What a lucky lot of students to have you all for dorm parents (I guess we're supposed to call them residence halls now. :))
Melrose has come along way since I lived in the basement & we had 4 or 5 showers for the whole dorm.
Very happy for you!
