In the spirit of truth...

How can one know the joy of wearing dry underwear, receiving candy rewards for staying dry, getting a standing ovation after each successful bathroom trip, picking out brand new underwear with all of one's favorite characters and STILL pee on oneself?

That's the question of the month for Team Anderson. Rory had a great start. She was using the bathroom to stay dry and clean. It was glorious! Hence my previous posts. But in the interest of truth in advertising...I need to be honest. The last couples weeks have been bumpy.

To be fair, the two weeks after potty-training started have been hectic to say the least. We haven't had much patience and have lacked consistency in rewarding Rory for staying dry.

I'm convinced Pull-Ups are from the devil. While convenient and extremely necessary when taking your child to the nursery at church or a friend's house (these people should not be asked to potty-train my kid), they really are like a diaper...and Rory could care less about the disappearing designs or "cool alert" liner. So now she wears plastic training pants over her underwear. Which by the way she's not a huge fan of...perhaps that'll speed up the whole process.

I need to pray for grace. Having such success in the beginning has given me little patience for the speed bumps we're experiencing now. We still have our moments...Rory has become a fan of my "happy dance," which occurs only after a successful potty break. But we are still reminding her to sit on the potty. Bathroom breaks initiated by her are few and far between.

Two things . . .
First, I'm convinced that being "potty trained" is a continuum where some days are better than others and eventually the good (dry) days outnumber the not so good (wet) days. It will happen. (I do realize that's hard to remember when you are cleaning up puddles all day.) Hang in there.
Second, I'd love to see your happy dance.

I want to see the happy dance, too!
