Sorry

It's been too long...sorry. I let the blog go for a few days...too long I know.

Rory is learning emotions. Recently whenever she sees someone on t.v. or in a book who is crying she crinkles her face up and says "crying." Somewhere along the way we have added the phrase, "They're sad," to our repetoire. Fast forward to today. She has been a little weepy recently and today she was especially sad. This morning as I dried my hair she sat down by my feet and laid her head on the floor. She then looked up at me and said, "I'm sad." I told her I was sorry she was sad and gave her a kiss on the head. Later we had to make a WalMart run and I wouldn't give in to her repeated requests for a snack. Tears began streaming down her face and we spent the entire errand with her taking stabs at dramatic crying. Later as she calmed down a bit she looked up at me as I stroked her hair to still her and said, "I'm sad." My heart melted. My baby is sad...and what's more, has the ability to tell me how she feels. It seems to me that this must be a major milestone. At least it is in my eyes. Another layer to her ability to communicate with us.

Last Thursday we visited our good friends in Gladstone for the day. Melissa and I got away to work on our scrapbooking in the morning and then we spent the rest of the day until after dinner together. They have a daughter named Caedmon. She is about 6 months older than Rory and they get along swimingly. Their son, Zeke, is 6 months old and Rory enjoyed telling me over and over that the bouncy seat was for the baby. Anyway, the dads took the kiddos out to the park while the moms had girl time. I slathered sunscreen on our fair little Rory and sent her out into the world, confident I had fulfilled my duty as a responsible parent. And to be fair, she didn't burn. She did however, break out in a red, blotchy rash all over her face. It seemed to worsen as the afternoon went on, even after my attempts to wipe it off which seemed to be unpleasant for her. The next morning though, her pale face was back. Not a red spot in sight. Our final deduction is that she must have sensitive skin and we can only purchase name brand products for her from now on.

Tis the season for graduation parties and we have finished our rounds for this year. I actually look forward to these parties. But having Rory in tow is a different story. We actually left a party early because there were too many women wearing white pants. I knew if we were there for long almost everyone would have been branded with a chocolate handprint.
